Good morning, Scottsdale. You’re reading Scottsdale Scoop, your insider pass to what’s fun, fresh, and worth checking out around town. Every issue features hand-picked events, local business spotlights, and hidden gems that make our city great.

We’re locking in partners for November to 2026. If you want to get your business in front of Scottsdale locals reach out here.

Happy Veterans Day to all the veterans out there 🇺🇸. Thank you for your service.

Just getting back from a long day in Sedona – it's absolutely beautiful up there. Writing this a bit later than usual (sticking to that 6AM send time), so bear with me if there are a few typos!

PS - had a whole other event this weekend that I talk about but just got word they cancelled it about 5 mins before this went out! Bummer as it’s such a great event.

SCOTTSDALE SNAPSHOT

Scottsdale Loses a True Visionary

We can thank Bill Walton for Indian Bend Green Belt

Bill Walton passed away on November 3rd at 95, and we lost the man behind the Indian Bend Green Belt Wash and so much of what makes Scottsdale special.

If you've used the 7.5-mile greenbelt running through our city, you have Bill to thank. Back in 1963, fresh out of Iowa State as a landscape architect, he wrote a letter to the editor about flooding issues that completely changed Scottsdale's future. Instead of letting the Army Corps of Engineers build an ugly concrete channel (think LA's concrete mess), Bill envisioned something different: a grass-lined wash that would become like "Central Park through the city."

He rode his bike to work, noticed how grass survived floods better than concrete, and turned that observation into what was recognized as one of the nation's top engineering feats in 1974. He also played a huge role in bringing the TPC and Phoenix Open to Scottsdale, helped revitalize the McDowell corridor, and served two terms on City Council.

The detail I love most: he got his grandkids involved in community service and took each one to City Hall on their 18th birthday to register to vote. That's legacy building right there. Rest in peace, Bill. Thank you for everything.

American Cup Championship Returns

WestWorld is hosting the American Cup Championship Arabian Horse Show running November 14-16. This AHA, USEF, and USDF rated show gives youth and amateur riders a chance to compete at a premium venue while qualifying for regional and national competitions.

The Arabian Horse Association of Arizona puts on consistently outstanding equestrian events, and this one offers a wide variety of classes for exhibitors. If you're into horses or just curious about the sport, WestWorld always provides a beautiful backdrop for these competitions!

Scottsdale Scoop Dinner Club Round 2!

I’m so pumped to announce round 2 of our dinner club is officially live! I ran a poll a few newsletters ago asking if this is something you’d want to participate in and the echo was a huge “YES!” This dinner club is on Wednesday, November 19th.

Take a quick personality quiz, and we'll match you with 5 compatible strangers for dinner at a local favorite Scottsdale spot that won't break the bank. We handle everything—restaurant selection, reservations, dietary preferences—you just show up.

Conversation starters keep things flowing, and if the vibe's right, the group can extend the night to a second venue. After dinner, choose who you want to stay connected with, no pressure, no awkwardness.

Fresh seafood, Piña Coladas, leis, and all the aloha spirit you need to pretend you're on island time for a few hours.

If you've been craving poke bowls, fish tacos, or anything that tastes like vacation, this is your spot.

LOCAL BUSINESS OF THE WEEK

Rusty Nail Meats

Rusty Nail Meats might just be the best butcher shop in Scottsdale that I’ve been to. They've got two locations (Scottsdale Commons and Ancala Village) and they're a legit, old-school butcher shop and are always so helpful in the 50 questions I usually walk in with.

What sets them apart is their gorgeous selection of organic meats plus that large meat ager behind the counter showcasing some seriously holy grail aged cuts. Their pre-order system lets you snag exactly what you want and even request custom cuts for special meals or recipes.

The reviews speak for themselves. People are raving about prime rib that's "tender with an awesome taste" and customers are already placing second orders after their first visit.

There’s a ton of reviews with how helpful they’ve been with other customers too and I always appreciate amazing customer support. Keep doing what you’re doing, Rusty Nail Meats!

DATE SPOT OF THE WEEK

The Ends

The Ends is inspired by the spirit of Anthony Bourdain’s food travels and I’m a massive fan of Parts Unknown.

What caught my attention first was their commitment to cooking with tallow instead of seed oils, something you rarely see restaurants talk about openly. Not sure how you all feel about seed oils, but I respect the fact that they don’t use them!

The menu pulls inspiration from all over the world, but it's not trying too hard to be fancy. Think flavors from a back alley in Tokyo mixed with Texas pit-style cooking, all made with ingredients your body recognizes. The atmosphere has this intentional weight to it (warmth, presence, the kind of place where you naturally put your phone away).

They also offer private dinners for small groups and even teach pasta-making classes in their kitchen if you're looking for something beyond the usual date night routine. Perfect for when you want to bring someone worth sitting across from and savor the experience.
