SCOTTSDALE SNAPSHOT

The Loop Industrial Complex Breaks Ground

Another cool construction project! Builders just broke ground on The Loop, a new industrial complex coming to north Scottsdale near Loop 101 and Princess Drive. Phoenix-based developer Creation is building four industrial buildings on 16.45 acres, creating 267,000 square feet of space for light manufacturing, skilled assembly, and distribution.

This isn't your typical warehouse development. The buildings will combine efficient industrial design with high-end retail polish, plus they're adding EV charging stations and environmentally-friendly landscaping. Grant Kingdon from Creation says this fills a real need since most industrial space in the nearby Scottsdale Airpark area is outdated and has been built out for over a decade.

Construction should wrap up by late 2026, bringing modern industrial space to one of Scottsdale's most visible and connected locations. I'm curious how this will change the Airpark skyline!

Banner Health Hospital Plan Moves Forward Despite Pushback

Banner Health's $400 million hospital proposal for north Scottsdale is heading to the city's Planning Commission, despite facing some serious opposition. The proposed medical campus would sit at Hayden Road and Loop 101, but the Scottsdale Airport Advisory Commission voted 5-1 against it last month. Yikes.

Their main concern? Emergency helicopter flights from the hospital could create dangerous intersections with existing airport traffic. The Scottsdale Firefighters Association has also been opposing the project for two years, arguing that the area's healthcare needs are already covered and the new facility would stretch medical personnel thin.

Banner Health remains confident the project will move ahead, so this is definitely one to watch as it goes through the approval process. What’s your thoughts?

Kevin Costner & Field of Dreams Coming to Scottsdale Stadium

Baseball movie legend Kevin Costner returns to Scottsdale this Saturday, October 25th for the Western Wiffle Ball Classic at Scottsdale Stadium, followed by a screening of Field of Dreams with the actor in attendance.

The tournament runs 9am-7pm with teams from over 20 states competing on the same field where the Giants play spring training. The event was founded by Valley resident Logan Rose, who built his own backyard field as a kid after being inspired by the movie's famous "If you build it, they will come" line (so cool!). Check BLWWiffleBall.com for free tickets while they last.

TOGETHER WITH OPTICAL EXPRESSIONS

Great Promo for October! Buy One Pair, Get 50% Off a Second Pair

When was the last time you got your eyes checked? Optical Expressions has been the Valley's go-to for 35+ years. They've got spots in Phoenix and Scottsdale, so no excuses.

They handle everything from eye exams to contacts to LASIK co-management, even that annoying dry eye situation. And here's the kicker: they’re running a great October deal where you buy one pair and get 50% off a second.

Finally get those prescription sunglasses you keep putting off. Or grab a backup pair for your car.

LOCAL BUSINESS OF THE WEEK

Revel McDowell Mountain

After learning more about what Revel McDowell Mountain is building here in North Scottsdale, I'm genuinely impressed by how they're redefining what active aging looks like. Revel feels more like a luxury resort than a retirement community. I had a chance to visit their community during a Chamber of Commerce event and knew I was going to write about them down the road. I’ve been looking at retirement communities to help my grandpa and this came at a perfect time.

Their all-inclusive membership model gives residents beautifully designed apartment homes, flexible dining options, premium amenities, and transportation services. Everything you need to live independently while thriving in an empowering community.

Their community programs stand out too. They're hosting a Pink Out Happy Hour today where residents are collecting handmade beanies for HonorHealth cancer patients, plus they offer special discounts for veterans and first responders. It's refreshing to see a business that genuinely cares about giving back to the broader Scottsdale community while creating such a thoughtful environment for their own residents.

DATE SPOT OF THE WEEK

Potter’s Peak

Looking for something different this week? Potters' Peak combines great coffee with hands-on pottery classes, and it's perfect for a creative date. I’m always looking for cool things to do that’s not dining (although I do cover that).

Located on 116th St and Shea, this spot lets you sip their Union Espresso blend (roasted by Press aka one of the best) while trying the pottery wheel together. Their coffee shop is open until 6:30pm most days (8pm on weekends), and pottery classes run from 4-8:30pm.

There's something really fun about creating something together while chatting over coffee. It's easy to lose track of time between the pottery wheel and good conversation. You also leave with a handmade memento.

Try the Union Espresso before or after class, it's a nice pairing.

TOGETHER WITH QUANTUM RED

I'm always on the hunt for local gems that deliver real results, and I have to tell you about Quantum Red! As someone who personally uses their red light therapy services, I can vouch for the benefits this local spot offers.

What sets Quantum Red apart? They've created the most affordable red light therapy experience in Scottsdale with their smart self-serve model. For just $100/month, you get unlimited access to both red light therapy and infrared sauna sessions at two convenient locations. That's unbeatable value when you compare it to other wellness centers in town ($300+ per month).

If you mention Scottsdale Scoop they will give you 50% off your first month to try at a low price.

THE GOOD LIFE

Tucked on a rare peninsula lot along Lake Serena in the gated Monterey Point community, this 3-bed, 2-bath Tuscan-style retreat is a dream home! Richly stained concrete floors, hand-carved cabinetry, and a private dock set this apart from other homes I’ve seen lately.
